Simple Enough for a Child to Send a Card
My daughter is 7 1/2 and decided earlier this summer she wants to make money. So, I showed her how to use my greeting card system. She totally “gets it” and every day, she sends an unexpected card to one new person and then I pay her at the end of the week.
I had a training session one day, so I wanted to let Emily know that she needs to be quiet during the training.
My daughter was outside playing when I overheard her talking to her little friend, Nora (who is 6), and explaining to her how it works.
She said, “Yea, it’s really cool. You login on the internet, choose a card, type in whatever you want to say and send it to anybody you want.”
Then she asked her friend, “Do you want to help?”
Her friend ran home to ask her mom who was probably totally confused as to what Nora was talking about, but she ran back up to our house all excited!
The next thing I know, my daughter is sitting at my computer, showing Nora how to send a card.
Keep in mind these girls are 7 and 6.
They picked out one to send to Nora’s dad, she typed in exactly what she wanted to say, knows her address, so I helped her fill in the contact info and before you know it, Nora sent an unexpected to card to her dad.
I told her, “That card will be mailed and your dad should get it in just a couple of days right to your house, so you can’t tell him. It will be a big surprise just from you to him.”
Her eyes lit up like the 4th of July! She was so excited to be sending her dad a surprise in the mail.
One of the best lessons I learned from Beach Money is to keep things simple. As adults, we tend to make things way more complicated in our business than they need to be.
Kids don’t get caught up in all the complexities and this was such as great reminder to me to keep on keeping things simple.
If my 7 year old can show a 6 year old how to send a card simply by asking “Do you want to help?” there should be absolutely nothing stopping us from doing the same.
