What type of business is it?

Open Leaf Excursions is a company devoted to introducing people to the outdoors. We take the fear out of the unknown and make the outdoors a place of fun and adventure.

Our customers’ range from urban dwellers, who have never spent time outside of the cement jungle, to experienced adventurers looking for the next exciting endeavor.

Why did you start this business?

I saw a great need for getting the next generation into the outdoors. Because their parents and educators didn’t have the knowledge or resources to get them outdoors I saw an opportunity. I also saw a need for better marketing within the outdoor outfitter businesses.

We work much like a travel agent helping groups put together adventures and getting a finder’s fee from the outfitter. It’s conscious capitalism at its best.

What keeps you moving forward??

The excitement I see in people’s faces when they discover the magic of the outdoors for themselves is a sincere driving force. Plus, who wouldn’t love my job. It’s just plain fun!

What advice do you have for new entrepreneurs?

Be prepared to work HARD. You have to wear every hat in the business and be somewhat knowledgeable in all areas. Be humble and take the time to get the education you need. Never stop learning.

What else would you like to tell us about your story?

I created Open Leaf Excursions because I am a mother of two and I see many kids who are completely clueless about the wonders of nature. I want to help create a generation that cares about the outdoor world so we continue to advocates for that world.
